I love tiny birds, and I love large birds! This painting was inspired by the beautiful pelicans of Southern California. I admire them flying high over the beaches in Laguna Beach and Dana Point, or seeing them up close plunging into the cold Pacific waters close to the pier in San Clemente. This painting shows a male California Brown Pelican in his beautiful mating plumage, crafted out of burlap and heavy paint textures.
